Crystal vs. Solo: Does the Glass Change the Whiskey?
Does whiskey really taste better in an expensive crystal glass, or could the same bourbon taste just as good in a plastic, red, Solo cup?
Join us for another installment of Whiskey Class with Jason as we explore the fascinating relationship between our senses, our surroundings, and the whiskey we drink. In this interactive tasting experience, we'll challenge what you think you know about whiskey:
Does the shape of a glass influence its aroma and flavor?
Can lighting, music, and atmosphere change how we experience a pour?
And what happens when someone tells you that you're about to taste one of the finest whiskeys ever made?
Does that suggestion actually change what you experience?
Through a series of fun, hands-on tasting experiments, we'll explore the science and psychology behind flavor perception. Discover how expectations influence our senses, how our brains interpret flavor, and why the exact same whiskey can create surprisingly different experiences depending on how, where, and with whom we enjoy it.
Whether you're a seasoned whiskey enthusiast or just beginning your journey, this class will challenge your palate, spark some interesting conversations, and perhaps forever change the way you enjoy your next dram.
The whiskey may stay the same, but will your perception? Join us and find out!
Our expert instructor, Jason Bauer, has spent the past several years immersed in the world of whiskey, fueled by a fascination with its history, production, and flavor. With a foundation of over 50 specialized classes covering everything from Bourbon to Scotch, he bridges the gap between formal study and the simple joy of a great pour.
As a Registered Dietitian with a background in chemistry and physiology, Jason looks at whiskey through a unique lens. He loves breaking down the science of the glass, from the complexities of fermentation to how our physiology shapes the way we perceive aroma and taste. His goal is to make the technical side of spirits both easy to understand and even easier to enjoy.
